King Felipe VI of Spain fingers over the Commander’s Cross to the President of the EuroMed College of Fez

Mostapha Bousmina, president of the Euro-Med University of Fez and José Manuel Roldan, former vice president, received the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Civil Merit awarded by King Felipe VI of Spain and Ambassador Ricardo Diez-Hochleitner Rodriguez.

King Felipe VI of Spain has just awarded Mostapha Bousmina, President of the Euromed University of Fez (UEMF), the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, one of the important Spanish distinctions, for the efforts he made at the head of this prestigious university, created in 2012.

In addition to Mostapha Bousmina, this same royal distinction was also awarded to his vice-president, vice-president of this university until 2020 and professor, the Spaniard José Manuel Roldan. The decorations were handed over on Thursday evening, June 16, 2022, in Rabat to the two personalities by the Spanish ambassador to Morocco, Ricardo Diez-Hochleitner Rodriguez, during a ceremony organized at the ambassador’s residence, in the presence of many personalities from the world of politics and culture.

In a speech, the Spanish ambassador, known for being a strong supporter of friendship and rapprochement between his country and Morocco – he has been in office in Morocco since 2015 – paid a vibrant tribute to Mostapha Bousmina and José Manuel Roldan for having worked years to make this university a model for the development of knowledge, science and culture in an area that goes beyond the Mediterranean.

Thus, the Spanish ambassador stated: “I am delighted that this awarding of decorations to two great personalities of the academic world is the first in our embassy after the important visit to Rabat on April 7th by the President of the Government, Mr. Sanchez, at the invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI allowing the opening of a new stage in the relations between Spain and Morocco, aware of the magnitude and importance of the ties that unite our two countries”.

And to add that these two awards underline “the central value that education must occupy in our relationships anchored in solid cultural and human ties that we must deepen to promote our mutual knowledge and everything that unites us as people, brother, neighbor and friend” .

For his part, the President of Euromed, a multilingual professor from Nador, expressed his joy at receiving this award from the King of Spain, which comes at a time when “relationships between Spain and Morocco are becoming very solid, very clear with a bright future for our two countries”.

And to add that “the ties that unite us do not date from today (…), they are based on a solid history and we have a common future to build an area of ​​peace and shared prosperity”.

The Euromed University of Fez (UEMF) is placed under the honorary presidency of King Mohammed VI. Created in November 2012 and labeled by the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM), UEMF is a regional university whose mission is to promote exchanges, intercultural dialogue and academic and cultural partnerships in the Euro-Mediterranean, as well as high-level training and research.
